About LAURA WIECEK
Art is my lifelong passion and I've always had a particular affinity for producing finished art work using common materials. My inspiration is drawn from geometry principles, golden symmetry and water patterns. I work in three different media - paintings, weavings and book art.
My acrylic-base paintings hold sections of rope, string and pieces of glass creating a highly textured surface. Also incorporated into some of my paintings are my own "paint-on paper, cut into strips, then weave together" collages.
My weavings are interlocked with strips of vintage silk fabric, sorted paper, variegated yarns, ribbons and wood. The final art pieces result in unique wall hangings.
New life emerges as I reshape volumes of outdated books. By folding, curling, rolling and hole-punching the pages, reversing covers from inside to out, and attaching weavings and origami forms I create book sculptures.
My artistic goal is to pass on to others the joy I receive from working in each genre of my art world.
